No certification? No problem! We accept people with any (or no) experience onto the team. That said, there will be lots of learning to do once you arrive.
Everyone on the team has to have a valid Standard First Aid with CPR-C (or equivalent). If you don’t have that, we’ll have you join our course before Tryouts. If you already have at least SFA and CPR-C (or equivalent), you can come to a refreshing course or recert if it’s close to expiry.
All teammates will be offered a chance to go through our First Responder training over the course of the first semester. This brings all UBCEFRT members up to First Responder 3, nationally accredited through the Canadian Red Cross. With this training, team members will be able to use all gear in the UBCEFRT office and can even use the certification to apply for volunteer and paid positions in the community.
All UBCEFRT must be students at the University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus. They are also required to sign a UBCEFRT Member Agreement and complete all shifts and training.
